My name is Dr Vladimir Barayev and I am the first concierge pediatrician on Staten Island. I believe that every family should have a medical home which is their central hub for wellness and not just medicine. A strong foundation for good health begins with a good relationship with your doctor. I have opened my own concierge pediatrics office on Staten Island with the patient-doctor relationship built into its core.
How is this care different? My patients have the luxury of appointments that can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 1 hour. When families cannot make it into my office we arrange for a visit to be done in their own homes. My patients can send me text messages and I’ll actually reply in a timely manner. They know they will get same day or next day appointments to see me. I do all of this because I believe it’s the way doctors are supposed to work with families to keep them healthy and thriving.
What do general pediatricians do? General pediatricians are experts in child health and development. Their primary job is to closely monitor the physical and mental growth of children through regular office visits. This type of care has been proven to help prevent, detect and manage any abnormalities that may develop over time. Urgent care centers cannot do this type of monitoring over time. Additionally, the general pediatrician is available to manage urgent sick visits. Children with regular access to their doctors suffer from less mental and physical disease. Dr. Barayev takes these responsibilities very seriously and if any patient feels that they cannot contact him to discuss a health concern about their child within 24 hours, then he has failed in his responsibilities.
Why it’s important to have a board-certified pediatrician? In order to obtain board certification, doctors must demonstrate their knowledge of diagnosis and management of diseases as well as the delivery of care and structure of health systems. It is an extra layer of professional verification to give families more peace of mind when choosing a doctor. There is a crucial requirement to stay current with evolving medical literature. Research has demonstrated that board-certified doctors provide better clinical care. (Lipner,2013)
